Siberian salamanders have compounds in their blood that enable them to survive temperatures of -45°C(-49F). They can stay frozen solid for years before thawing and reviving as good as new. (Wild Russia - NDR)

After seeing my photo of the Wespe I posted the other day, a friend of mine did some detective work and found the EXACT location of that Wespe I posted the other day! The buildings still exist! Thank you Google Maps! The photos are taken in the city of Beauvais, France (about 80km North of Paris) in early 1943. Why 1943? First, the Wespe wasn’t produced until February of 1943. Second the Germans were well expelled of France by September of 1944 and Allied war diaries did not report any snowfall until 10 December 1944. So to narrow it down even farther it had to have been February or March of 1943 and this had to be one of the first released Wespe that was assigned to an SS unit. Amazing how that street sign and some detective work coupled with modern technology can lead to a solved puzzle like this.

Victory Parade. June 24, 1945. Moscow. Red Square.
С Днем Великой Победы всех!!!!!! УРА!!!
Watch whole parade (49 min)
This was the first Victory Parade, so it makes sense that it was held a little after the fact, but ever since, Victory Day - the day the Nazis surrendered to the Soviet Union - has been celebrated on May 9.
Personal anecdote time: these days in the European Union as well as EU candidate states, May 9 is Europe Day, celebrating the unity of the continent. But in May 9 in my little town in Bulgaria, my colleagues and I watched the Victory Parade on TV (our little local cable got one channel from Russia) and my colleagues sang patriotic Russian songs. They told me nostalgically about when May 9 was the Day of Victory in Bulgaria too, instead of the Day of Europe (which I thought was a little ironic since Bulgaria was actually on the losing side).
Then I blogged about that, and someone who lived in Plovdiv responded to say that they had never ever seen Bulgarians do anything like that.
So while I am definitely not making up my anecdote, perhaps it is an outlier.
Anyway, today is both Victory Day and Europe Day. A little more on each later.
Gaming Logic
more you tilt your body your character will get away from danger
the louder you yell, the more critical hits you’ll land
when you stand up you can see everyone’s weakspots
when you tilt your head you’ll be able to see more of the area
When you lean forward, you get +30% concentration.
When you use controller 1, it means you’ll win
Throwing yourself bodily to the side helps you avoid obstacles in racing.
Threatening the playable character with physical injury will make platform puzzles easier.
All of these things. All of them.
The maned wolf is the largest canid in South America. It is also the tallest wild canid in the world, its stilt-like legs a useful adaptation for spying prey over the tall grasslands where it lives. Despite its name, the maned wolf is not a wolf at all, nor is it a fox, coyote, or dog. It is the only member of the Chrysocyon genus, making it a truly unique animal, not closely related to any other living canid. One hypothesis for this is that the maned wolf is the last surviving species of the Pleistocene Extinction, which wiped out all other large canids from the continent.

Funeral of two RAF men at Mont-a-L’Abbe Cemetery, St Helier, Jersey, 6 June 1943. They were Sgts Butlin and Holden, and this was the first burial of Allied servicemen on Jersey during World War 2. The Luftwaffe provided both the pall bearers and the graveside firing party. When a new Allied cemetery was opened in Howard Davis Park, they were exhumed and re-interred there.
